The Obama administration on Wednesday placed sanctions on eight Ukrainian separatists, a Russian bank, and a handful of others for their roles in the conflict in eastern Ukraine. The Treasury Department said the sanctions, which come about a month after a ceasefire between Ukraine and the separatists went into effect, were aimed at punishing actions "that threaten the peace, security, stability, sovereignty, or territorial integrity of Ukraine."

Also Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden informed Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that the U.S. would soon send more aid to Kiev, including drones and Humvees.
