During a pyrotechnics-filled event Tuesday in Las Vegas, the owners of the National Hockey League's 31st franchise announced the team will be called the Vegas Golden Knights.

About 5,000 people gathered outside the T-Mobile Arena to find out the name and see the team's black and gold logo for the first time, the Los Angeles Times reports. The Golden Knights will play in the Pacific division of the Western Conference, starting next season. Principle owner Bill Foley and a handful of others agreed to pay $500 million for the franchise, with none of the money going to the players.

Foley, who originally wanted to name the team the Black Knights in honor of his alma mater, West Point, has vowed the team will win the Stanley Cup within six seasons. The NHL is the first major professional sports league to put a team in Las Vegas.
