Florida mom wants Toys 'R' Us to stop selling Breaking Bad toys

Breaking Bad may be great television, but one Florida mom fears that toys themed around the AMC show will encourage children to emulate bad behavior.

Susan Schrivjer is petitioning Toys "R" Us to stop selling Breaking Bad action figures, which feature Walter White and Jesse Pinkman — complete with their lab coats, hazmat suits, beakers, and gas masks used in their fictional manufacturing of crystal meth.

"It's about drugs, and they're selling it in a children's toy store," Schrivjer told the local Fox affiliate in Fort Myers. "Kids mimic their action figures, if you will. You know, do you want your child in an orange jumpsuit?"

For what it's worth, though, Schrivjer actually has nothing against Breaking Bad itself: "I thought it was a great show; it was riveting." She just doesn't want the toys to be sold in a children's store chain.

The Toys "R" Us company, however, told Schrivjer in a statement that these toys are sold in the adult-oriented sections of their stores, and are clearly marked as being appropriate for ages 15 and up. --Eric Kleefeld
