England’s Russian adventure has ended with a loss after Belgium secured third place in the World Cup play-off in St Petersburg.
Thomas Meunier scored the opener for Roberto Martinez’s side after only four minutes and the win was secured when Belgium skipper Eden Hazard netted with eight minutes to go.

After losing the semi-final to Croatia in extra-time in midweek, Gareth Southgate’s side were looking to finish the tournament on a high, but it was not to be.
The one plus point is that Harry Kane is in line to win the World Cup Golden Boot for top scorer. He has six goals while French attackers Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe are on three ahead of the World Cup final on Sunday (4pm UK time).
