Discs aren’t dead: Denon’s sleek DCD-100 CD player
CD lovers rejoice – the new hi-fi system promises high-quality playback and a compact design
The world may be moving over to downloaded or streamed music, but there are plenty of audiophiles who are holding on to the CD collections they’ve built up since the format was first introduced over three decades ago.
Thankfully, the Japanese hi-fi maker Denon is staying true to the physical format with its sleek new DCD-100 that promises high-quality playback for CD lovers.
The unit is relatively compact, with a width of 280mm, a height of 71mm and a depth of 305mm.

Digital and analogue output options are available. These allow users to hook up the system to devices with a coaxial connection, as well as older amplifiers with standard stereo ports.
To the left of the CD drive is a small OLED display that shows you what song is currently playing. A row of four buttons runs along the bottom of the device so you can play, pause or skip tracks.
The DCD-100 is designed to partner the company’s £649 DRA-100 network receiver. Pairing up the two audio players means you can also listen to downloaded or streamed music, which can be controlled using the remote included in the box.
Both share the same footprint and an almost identical design, so the DCD-100 can be stacked on top of the DRA-100 for a cleaner look.
Music enthusiasts who just want the CD player can expect to pay around £500 for the DCD-100. Adding the digital receiver brings the price up to £1,149.
This may seem expensive, but the price could be worth paying for audiophiles on the hunt for a high-quality CD player.
