New business for the post office
The U.S. Postal Service will be delivering Amazon.com packages on Sundays, starting this week. The new service will be offered at first only in New York City and Los Angeles, but the USPS plans to expand it next year, and says it hopes to arrange similar deals with other retailers.

Farm subsidies for billionaires
Between 1995 and 2012, 50 billionaires collected an estimated $11.3 million in farm subsidies, according to the Environmental Working Group, even though few if any of them even live on working farms.

In the last 50 years, the average number of children born per woman has halved worldwide, from five to 2.5, and continues to fall. Demographers say the earth has entered the era of Peak Child, meaning that under current projections, there will never be more children under 14 than there are now.

Barbie goes to China
Toy-maker Mattel has given Barbie a makeover for the Chinese market, where many so-called tiger parents will only buy toys that have an educational aspect. The new range of dolls includes “Violin Soloist” Barbie, which comes complete with a bow and sheet music.

Workforce statistics from the BLS
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, blacks and Hispanics make up one quarter of the U.S. workforce, but represent 44 percent of the country’s high school dropouts and 15 percent of its college graduates. Hispanic men have the highest workforce participation rate by ethnicity and gender, but they are outearned by white and black men and women.
