Jiro Dreams of Sushi

This “thoughtful and wonderful” documentary finds drama in one man’s Zen-like quest for perfection, said The Philadelphia Inquirer. That man is Jiro Ono, an 85-year-old chef whose Tokyo sushi restaurant boasts a three-star Michelin rating. Despite the subject, it “isn’t just a film for foodies.”

Aki Kaurismäki’s most recent movie was one of 2011’s best, said The Washington Post. The story of a young African immigrant taken under wing by a French shoeshine man, Le Havre becomes “a playful parable that conveys profound truths about compassion, humility, and sacrifice.”
