Best apps for reducing your phone’s battery use
JuiceDefender, Advanced Task Killer, Timeriffic
JuiceDefender helps an Android phone get more out of each charge by shutting down functions when they’re not needed. Choose the power-management settings that suit your needs: The least-aggressive setting shuts down connectivity when your screen is off but reconnects every 15 minutes to update email and Facebook notifications.
Advanced Task Killer shows you a list of apps running on your phone in the background, allowing you to shut each one down with a click. The service can be useful, if you know which apps are energy suckers.
Timeriffic allows you to put the functions on your phone on a schedule, so that the ringtone won’t sound at work, for instance, or Wi-Fi connectivity will shut down while you sleep. Settings can also be established by location. Like the other apps on this list, Timeriffic is free.
