With a war chest reportedly topping $200 million, American Crossroads, the largest Republican “Super PAC,” this week unleashed its initial advertising assault on President Obama in six swing states. Steven J. Law, the group’s leader, says the first round of ads will attack the president’s handling of gas prices and the economy, in an attempt to influence independent voters who have supported Obama in recent national polls. Crossroads is legally prohibited from coordinating with presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign, but will nonetheless be a formidable ally. The first round of ads, said Law, will stress that Obama “can’t seem to fix things he promised he would fix.”
