Charity of the week: Young Survival Coalition
The Young Survival Coalition offers a network of support and expert advice to young women newly diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Young Survival Coalition (youngsurvival.org) is dedicated to supporting women under the age of 40 who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. Founded by three breast cancer survivors who were diagnosed before their 35th birthdays, YSC works with survivors, caregivers, and the cancer-research community to offer a network of support and expert advice to young women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. More than 10,000 young women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and YSC also works to raise awareness about their unique challenges. Women diagnosed under the age of 40 face higher mortality rates, effects on fertility, and the possibility of early menopause.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which ranks not-for profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
