J.Lo’s quest goes on
When it comes to choosing men, Jennifer Lopez admits she’s fallen short.
Jennifer Lopez is still searching for her soul mate, said Lisa Robinson in Vanity Fair. Throughout her career, Lopez has gone from dancer to singer to actress, and lately to being a judge on American Idol, mastering each passage with seeming ease. “I think I’m a really great performer,” she says. “I’m not as gifted a vocalist as some of the girls that are out there, but I can communicate.” But in choosing men, she admits, she’s fallen short. Her relationship with Sean “P. Diddy” Combs fell apart after a 1999 incident involving a gun, a car chase, and a high-profile trial. “It wasn’t a great time in my life.’’ Then there was “Bennifer’’—her highly scrutinized, ultimately failed relationship with Ben Affleck.
When she married singer Marc Anthony, in 2004, she was convinced she’d found true love. “That was my biggest dream, and I really worked hard at it. We both did.’’ But Anthony, she says, didn’t let her be herself. “Sometimes we don’t realize that we are compromising ourselves. To understand that a person is not good for you, or that that person is not treating you in the right way. I love myself enough to walk away from that now.”
