Show of the week: What Would Jesus Buy?
This lively documentary follows the Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir and their quixotic quest to wean America from commercialized Christmas.
Produced by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me), this lively documentary follows the Rev. Billy (performance artist Bill Talen) and his New York City–based Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir. Their quixotic quest: to wean America from commercialized Christmas. As biodiesel buses take them from Wal-Marts to strip malls to Disneyland during the height of 2005’s holiday shopping frenzy, their mock-evangelist antics deliver laughs—but also a serious message about rampant commercialism and mounting debt. Monday, Dec. 14, at 9 p.m., Sundance Channel
