Hotel of the week: Best Western Hotel Tomo, San Francisco
Set in the Bay Area's Japantown, the refashioned Best Western celebrates Japan’s pop culture.
Imagine stepping off the streets of San Francisco and into a Japanese anime cartoon, said John Horn in the Los Angeles Times. The Best Western Hotel Tomo, a refashioned chain hotel in the Bay Area’s Japantown, celebrates Japan’s pop culture. TVs play anime in a lobby “decorated in the striking, colorful hybrid of cartoon and graphic-art illustration” that defines the art form. All 125 rooms burst with brightly colored furniture and illustrations by Tokyo artist Heisuke Kitazawa. And the vending machines are filled with anime-inspired souvenirs that fans can take home when checkout time arrives. Contact: Jdvhotels.com
