Howell found that people who spent money on experiences, such as going to the movies or eating out, reported much more satisfaction and senses of well-being than people who purchased things. BAD DAY FOR: Bay Area good news, after the Hearst Corp. said it may close down the San Francisco Chronicle, the city’s main newspaper and the nation’s 12th largest by circulation. Hearst says it is cutting a “significant” number of jobs and will either shutter or sell the paper, which lost $50 million last year. Hearst is also considering shutting down the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. (Reuters)
