Looking for a new job? said Sarah E. Needleman in The Wall Street Journal. President-elect Barack Obama could be your boss. Whenever someone new moves into the White House, “roughly 7,000 government jobs open up nationwide and abroad.” You need not be a political wonk to apply. “The jobs, referred to as politically appointed or noncareer positions, span all levels and are in a range of fields, such as accounting, communications, law, engineering, technology, social services, and education.”
Post-election patriotism and high unemployment has boosted demand for federal jobs in general, said Lily Whiteman in Federal Times. While the positions will be filled over the course of the next year, it doesn’t hurt to look now. Uncle Sam’s primary job site, USAJobs.gov, is a good place to start, but don’t “rely on it exclusively.” Also search individual agency sites for open positions, and bookmark the official transition site, Change.gov, for the inside scoop on recent appointments and new task forces. Such information will give you a heads up on job openings—and also come in handy in an interview.
