Zero tolerance for pencil-sharpener

A 10-year-old South Carolina boy has been suspended from school for possession of a broken pencil-sharpener. A teacher spotted the unnamed child wielding the sharpener’s detached blade, and though he was clearly trying to sharpen a pencil, the boy was suspended for two days under the school’s “zero-tolerance” weapons policy. School officials said they had “to make sure the child understands the seriousness of having something that could potentially harm another student.”
