Robertson rebuffed
The week's news at a glance.
Dallas
Televangelist Pat Robertson this week lost his longtime seat on the board of directors of the National Religious Broadcasters, a result of what NRB president Frank Wright called “broad dismay with some of Pat’s comments.” Robertson, 75, founded the Christian Broadcasting Network in 1960 and served on the NRB board for 30 years. But many evangelicals have grown uncomfortable with him as a spokesman. Robertson recently advocated the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and said that Israel’s Ariel Sharon suffered a stroke because God was punishing him for withdrawing from Gaza. Robertson was one of 38 candidates for 35 seats on the NRB board.
