Arnold, the sequel

The week's news at a glance.

Sacramento

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced this week that he will run for re-election next year to “finish the job” he started. The Hollywood film star and former body builder swept former Gov. Gray Davis from power in a 2003 recall election, riding a wave of outrage over the state’s sorry financial shape. But his reform plans have stoked heated controversy, and he has clashed frequently with trade unions. Schwarzenegger’s popularity is at a record low, with only 36 percent of Californians giving him a positive rating. Democrats are discussing a list of challengers, including their own Hollywood stars, actor Warren Beatty and director Rob Reiner.
