Federal officials this week warned of credible threats that al Qaida might try to stage more suicide airline hijackings late this summer. The information reportedly came from interviews with al Qaida captives and electronic intercepts. “It didn’t just come from one place,” one official said. The new plots could be similar to the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, intelligence analysts said. The Department of Homeland Security issued an advisory to airline and airport officials, although they said they had no plans to raise the nation’s terrorism threat level. “Our aviation security has been dramatically strengthened since Sept. 11,” said Homeland Security spokesman Gordon Johndroe.
