Sept. 11 families sue

The week's news at a glance.

Washington, D.C.

Relatives of 600 Sept. 11 victims filed a trillion-dollar lawsuit accusing three Saudi princes and dozens of institutions of financing terrorism. The suit charges that banks and charities in Saudi Arabia, the government of Sudan, and other organizations funneled money to Osama bin Laden and his al Qaida network. Officials at one of the banks dismissed the case as “an act to extort Saudi money” deposited in the U.S. Family members said they weren’t looking for a windfall. “We have to stop the terrorists,” said Matt Sellito, whose 23-year-old son, Matthew, was killed in the World Trade Center. “One of the surest ways of stopping them is stopping their access to money.”
