Each week, we spotlight a cool innovation recommended by some of the industry's top tech writers. This week's pick is a stylish fire extinguisher.

A Samsung subsidiary designed a fire extinguisher that doubles as a flower vase, said David Grossman at Popular Mechanics. The "firevase" looks like a normal decorative flower holder made out of red-tinted glass that's easy to grab in an emergency. But tossing it toward a fire shatters the vase "to release a stash of potassium carbonate," a dry flame retardant, that is kept discreetly sealed in an outer chamber.
