The UK’s political parties have been vying for the spotlight this week as conference season gathered pace.
Keir Starmer made his key-note speech at the closing of the Labour’s annual conference in Brighton, where the embattled leader was heckled by left-wing activists. In a bid to convince his party that he could lead them to election victory, Starmer set out his priorities for a Labour government: “work, care, equality and security”.
Boris Johnson is heading into the Conservatives’ conference in Manchester this weekend to lay out his post-pandemic agenda with a new top team following his ambitious cabinet reshuffle. The prime minister is facing challenges from not only Starmer but also Reform UK leader Richard Tice, whose party conference will be kicking off on the same day in the same city.
