Quiz of The Week: 9 - 15 July
Have you been paying attention to The Week’s news?
It’s been another headline-grabbing week for the Conservatives as the number of runners in the leadership race to replace Boris Johnson was whittled down to just five.
Rishi Sunak secured the highest level of support from MPs during the first round of voting on Wednesday, receiving 88 votes to Penny Mordaunt’s 67. Liz Truss came third with 50, while Jeremy Hunt and Nadhim Zahawi were knocked out after failing to achieve the necessary 30 votes to remain in the contest.
The field was then further narrowed to just five hopefuls, with Attorney General Suella Braverman eliminated in Thursday’s vote. Right now, Mourdant appears to be winning over the Tories and is widely regarded as the one to beat.

Uprisings have continued in Sri Lanka after protesters broke into the presidential palace and set fire to the prime minister’s private home. Footage showed demonstrators taking a dip in the president’s swimming pool, rifling through a chest of drawers and milling around on the manicured lawns outside the mansion, while a group of young men reportedly “lounged” on a four-poster bed.
As the unrest continued, the nation’s parliament accepted ousted president Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s resignation, bringing an end to the rule of a family that has held power for nearly 20 years.
Meanwhile, the Lionesses have stormed through to the Uefa Women’s Euro 2022 football quarter-finals next week after thrashing Norway 8-0. Their final group game against Northern Ireland will take place tonight, but pundits think England have what it takes to bring home the trophy.
