Predictions: who will win the Super Bowl?

With star quarterback Patrick Mahomes in their ranks the Chiefs fans will be confident of victory in Miami.

However, the 49ers have a mean defence so expect them to be up for the challenge of stopping Mahomes. San Francisco QB Jimmy Garoppolo will also be out to orchestrate a famous victory.

Here we look at the pundit predictions…

Cody Benjamin, CBS Sports: Chiefs 31 49ers 29

“There’s also absolutely no way you can write off either side. That's typically the case with every Super Bowl [or should be], but this one feels especially hard to forecast. But this comes down to the QB, and no one has shown a more otherworldly ability to escape trouble, extend plays and then wow us with improbable bullets like Mr. Mahomes.”

Matt Bowen, NFL analyst, ESPN: Chiefs

“Mahomes is a game-changer. And his ability to make second-reaction plays is the reason I’m picking the Chiefs over the Niners.”

Kevin Seifert, national NFL writer, ESPN: 49ers

“They have been remarkably consistent all season, and there’s no reason to think they’ll change now.”

Esten McLaren, Sportsbook Wire USA Today: 49ers 32 Chiefs 29

“I like the Niners as the slight underdogs. While the Chiefs were able to contain the NFL’s leading rusher in Titans RB Derrick Henry in the AFC Championship, the 49ers have a multi-headed attack with Mostert, Tevin Coleman (shoulder) and Matt Breida. San Francisco also led the NFL with just 169.2 passing yards allowed per game in the regular season and will force the Chiefs to turn to their little-used rushing game. Back the underdog in Super Bowl LIV.”

Maurice Moton, Bleacher Report: Chiefs 33 49ers 30

“Defence wins titles, but the disparity between Mahomes and Garoppolo in quarterback play is too great to ignore in what should be a close match-up. The team with the better signal-caller gets the edge and the win in Miami.”

Justin Patrick, Last Word on Pro Football: 49ers

“The 49ers are probably the more complete team of the two and with their ground game and defense they are probably built to hold onto a lead more than the Texans or Titans. San Francisco will win a close game by keeping Mahomes on the sideline as much as possible.”
