The US Customs and Border Protection force has discovered two pounds of methamphetamine, worth around £4,500, inside a stuffed toy dog. The discovery was made at an immigration checkpoint, after drug-sniffing dogs alerted agents to its presence.
Runners led to wrong turn in marathon
A local man has won the Venice marathon after a group including the six favourites was led off course. The front-runners followed a guiding motorcycle as it took a wrong turn and covered several hundred metres before being told to turn back, handing Eyob Faniel an unlikely victory.

Man dies after ‘protection charms’ fail to work
A Nigerian man has fatally shot himself while attempting to show he had a magical protective charm to shield him from gunshots. The incident took place in front of several fellow members of a vigilante group, who had gathered to take part in a traditional protection ceremony in Dubul, a village in the state of Katsina.
