Sir Elton and Furnish were among the first to form a civil partnership in 2005 at the Windsor Guildhall. Exactly nine years later they have tied the knot following the legalisation of same-sex marriage on 29 March this year.
Sir Elton has said he is "very proud" of Britain for changing the law. "Having our civil partnership was an incredible breakthrough for people that have campaigned for a long time – through the 60s and the 50s in England when it was so hard to be gay and hard to be open about it. And it was a criminal act," he told the BBC.
"So for this legislation to come through is joyous, and we should celebrate it. We shouldn't just say, 'Oh, well we have a civil partnership. We're not going to bother to get married.' We will get married."
The couple's two sons Elijah and Zachary acted as ring bearers yesterday. One image (below) shows the newlyweds holding hands, with Elijah standing between them. "Zachary grabs David's iPhone and takes a photo of his brother while we exchange our vows," read the caption.
Elizabeth Hurley tweeted a picture of herself with comedian David Walliams.
Meanwhile, Walliams tweeted a picture of Sir Elton cutting the wedding cake, describing it as a "magnificent day".
Brooklyn Beckham, the eldest of Victoria and David Beckham's children, congratulated "Uncle Elton and Uncle David" on their marriage and posted a photograph of himself with his mother.
Guests were served wild mushroom soup with truffle cream, followed by beef short rib and caramelised onion pie, with warm chocolate pudding for dessert.
