Australian police investigating a report of a woman with serious injuries discovered eight dead children inside of a home Friday morning.
The children, ranging in age from 18 months to 15, were inside of a house in the Cairns suburb of Manoora, The Associated Press reports. The 34-year-old woman was still alive with stab wounds to the chest and rushed to a hospital, where she is in stable condition.
Police have not shared how the children were connected to the woman. "As it stands at the moment, there's no need for the public to be concerned about this other than the fact that it's a tragic, tragic event," Detective Inspector Bruno Asnicar said. "The situation is well controlled at the moment. There shouldn't be any concern for anyone else out of this environment."
