Republican Don Young, Alaska's sole congressman, wins 22nd term

Democrats hoped that this was the year they could retire Rep. Don Young, the 81-year-old Republican who has represented Alaska in the U.S. House since 1973. But despite some controversial comments about suicide at Wasilla High School and a recent rebuke from the House Ethics Committee, Young fairly easily won election to his 22nd term, beating Democrat Forrest Dunbar 52-41 percent, with a libertarian candidate, Jim McDermott taking the balance of the vote.
