Judge strikes down Kansas' gay marriage ban

A federal judge on Wednesday ruled against Kansas' constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, though he put the decision on hold until next week pending an appeal.

In his ruling, U.S. District Judge Daniel D. Crabtree cited a ruling from the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, which has jurisdiction over Kansas, that found same-sex marriage bans unconstitutional. Since the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal in that case, Crabtree ruled that Kansas must also allow gay couples to wed.
