A federal appeals court on Tuesday struck down same-sex marriage bans in Idaho and Nevada. The bans "impose profound legal, financial, social and psychic harms on numerous citizens of those states," the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals wrote, thus making them unconstitutional.
The decision came one day after the Supreme Court announced it had declined several appeals challenging rulings that overturned same-sex marriage bans. That decision effectively legalized gay marriage in five states, and potentially six more.
