Hall was first elected to Congress in 1980, as a conservative Democrat, but eventually switched to the Republicans in 2004. He was defeated for reelection earlier this year, against a challenger in his Republican primary.
Update: Hall is in stable condition, a hospital spokesperson has told the local NBC station.
