Democratic spending on the ground far outpaces GOP in five key Senate races

In the race for who can look the best by spending the least money, Democrats are losing to Republicans in competitive Senate races in Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, and North Carolina. Spending by outside groups, parties, and candidates in these five competitive races is two to 12 times higher for Democrats than Republicans.

Though big money may not be the greatest PR move, Democrats' deep pockets will certainly give them an advantage in GOTV efforts for Election Day: Democrats tend to use this spending for on-the-ground efforts to register voters and ensure supporters make it to the polls, while Republicans often favor ads and direct mail campaigns instead.
