Julia Pierson has resigned as director of the Secret Service, CNN reports. Her resignation comes amid security concerns after multiple incidents at the White House.
Jeh Johnson, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, announced Pierson's resignation in a statement Wednesday afternoon. Johnson saluted Pierson for "30 years of distinguished service to the Secret Service and the nation."
Johnson appointed Joseph Clancy, formerly the Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Protective Division of the Secret Service, as an interim Acting Director of the Secret Service.

On Tuesday, Pierson admitted that the Secret Service had "failed to follow numerous security protocols, allowing a man armed with a knife to penetrate deep inside the mansion," The New York Times reports.
