This is the video the NFL did not want anyone to see. The upsetting security camera footage, obtained by TMZ, shows Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice striking his then-fiancee (and now wife), Janay Rice, who then crumples unconscious to the floor of an elevator. (Warning: The video is extremely disturbing.)
The league saw video of the punch — not just the previously released footage of the aftermath — before handing down a widely criticized two-game suspension for Rice. The new tape has quickly sparked further condemnation of commissioner Roger Goodell for not taking a harsher stance against domestic violence.
