In this age of Halt and Catch Fires and Low Winter Suns, AMC is desperately holding onto the few genuine hits it does have. In that spirit, the network has found the perfect way to build on the success of its smash hit The Walking Dead: making another The Walking Dead!
AMC has officially ordered a pilot for the as-yet untitled Walking Dead spin-off, which was first teased last year. The so-called "companion series" will be set in an entirely different part of the world, following an all-new cast of characters attempting to survive in the zombie apocalypse. With any luck, they'll be thousands of miles away from Carl.
"There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows," said series creator Robert Kirkman in a press release. "Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill." (Spoiler alert: "what lurks out there" is probably zombies.)
