HBO is making a film based on Terrence McNally's play Master Class, which debuted on Broadway in 1995, and Meryl Streep is set to play the lead.
Streep will play opera singer Maria Callas in the film, HBO announced. Mike Nichols, who has worked with Streep on other projects, including Silkwood and Angels in America, will direct the film.
