Actor Meshach Taylor, who earned an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of Anthony Bouvier on Designing Women, died Saturday night surrounded by family at his home in Altadena, California. He was 67.

Taylor's agent, Dede Binder, told The Associated Press he died from cancer.

Taylor was born in Boston, and early in his career was a member of Chicago's Goodman Theatre. In addition to his role as a charming ex-con turned assistant on Designing Women, Taylor also starred in the 1987 movie Mannequin and the shows Dave’s World, Neds Declassified School Survival Guide, and Buffalo Bill.
