Beating Germany was always going to be an uphill climb for Portugal, particularly after it went down by two goals early in the game. But the nail in the coffin came from Portugese defender Pepe, who went tete-a-tete with Thomas Mueller in the worst possible way. He earned a red card for his efforts, and left his team down a man against the ruthlessly efficient German soccer machine. Mueller would add to the Germans' tally minutes later. --Ryu Spaeth
