Lots of people were surprised by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's (R-Va.) loss to primary challenger David Brat on Tuesday night, but not many people celebrated with a balloon drop. Stephen Colbert did, at the start of Wednesday night's Colbert Report. Colbert (the character) was celebrating the fact that like Frankenstein's monster, the Tea Party is still alive.

There was only one real rain cloud in Colbert's parade: "I am personally offended that the man with less money won," he said. Brat's low-low-budget victory was an affront to Colbert's "golden rule of politics: He who has the gold... and that's the end of the rule." --Peter Weber
