Baby rhino struts his stuff for the first time at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park

His head held high, nine-week-old Parvesh, the newest rhinoceros born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, made his public debut on Thursday.
Parvesh ("lord of celebration" in Hindi) spent the first weeks of his life in a protected area along with his mother, Alta, so the two could bond away from the other rhinos. When he was unleashed upon the zoo's 40-acre Asian Plains area, staff observed the adorable calf running and stumbling as he kept up with his mom. Among the other rhinos he met for the first time was Charlees, his 2-year-old sister.

The one-horned rhinoceros is listed as an endangered species, and just 3,250 remain in the wild. Parvesh was the 66th rhino born at the park over the past 40 years.
