Taco Bell is launching an 'American-inspired' upscale taco restaurant

With a menu featuring items such as Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Tacos Supreme and the Cheesy Gordita Crunch, it appears Taco Bell has already strayed from its "authentic" Mexican roots. And now the fast food company is launching a new, "American-inspired" upscale taco chain in what is likely an attempt to compete with Chipotle.

The chain, called U.S. Taco Co. and Urban Taproom, will boast a menu filled with items that have a distinctly American flair. There's the New England-themed "One Percenter" sandwich, which is crammed with lobster and coleslaw, and the Philadelphia-themed "Brotherly Love" taco, what features — you guessed it — steak and cheese. Nation's Restaurant News has the full menu if you're craving more.
