Jon Stewart pokes fun at the French, to honor satire

Jon Stewart has already shown his support for French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, whose Paris office was attacked last week, and for the principle of the freedom to tell jokes. On Monday night's Daily Show, he turned to the giant march in Paris on Sunday, taking aim at President Obama for not attending with other world leaders or even sending a high-ranking official to go in his place. But mostly, Stewart made fun of the French.

"Look, we're all united behind France, but if we suddenly start shying away from mocking the French with tired stereotypes, the terrorist win," Stewart said, "and I'm not going to let that happen." He didn't. Watch the hit parade — and a black-and-white art-film homage — below. --Peter Weber
