The most commonly used passwords of 2014 are terrifyingly easy to guess
Americans may be mightily concerned about cybersecurity, but the numbers — literally — don't lie: The most popular password of 2014 was the forehead slap-worthy '123456,' security app firm SplashData announced Tuesday. Half of the top 10 most common passwords were variations on the '1234' theme, though The Wall Street Journal reports '123456' has been battling the simple, elegant, utterly memorable 'password' for the top spot in recent years.
The 25 most popular passwords comprise 2.2 percent of all internet passwords — which means your forgetful, techno-phobic grandparents aren't the only ones using some woefully inadequate cybersecurity measures.
