President Obama will name Joseph P. Clancy to lead the Secret Service as the agency prepares to revamp itself after a series of embarrassing lapses, the White House confirmed Wednesday.
Clancy has served as the interim head of the agency since October, when former director Julia Pierson resigned amid scandal. The agency came under fire last year when a man scaled the White House fence and dashed into the building before security apprehended him.
In picking Clancy, Obama ignored the advice of an independent review of the Secret Service that concluded the next director should come from outside the beleaguered agency.
