Chicago-area dogs had a ruff week, because PetSmart was forced to close three of its PetsHotel boarding centers due to an outbreak of canine flu, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The company transferred all of the boarders to other nearby locations, and promised that it was treating dogs showing signs of the flu, as well as keeping them separate from pups that were lucky enough to dodge the virus. The canine flu virus first was observed in dogs about 10 years ago, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Symptoms include cough, runny nose, and fever, and the virus is rarely fatal.
PetSmart did not have to transfer any of its feline visitors, as they're not susceptible to the virus. Well played, cats.
