Chelsea Clinton is the cover subject of Elle magazine's May issue — which goes on sale two days after her mother Hillary Clinton is expected to announce her presidential campaign — and said in her interview that a female president would go a long way in more fully realizing gender equality.
"When you ask about the importance of having a woman president, absolutely it's important, for, yes, symbolic reasons — symbols are important," Clinton says. "One of our core values in this country is that we are the land of equal opportunity, but when equal hasn't yet included gender, there is a fundamental challenge there that, I believe, having our first woman president — whenever that is — will help resolve."
Read more excerpts from Clinton's interview, over at Elle, in which she also talks gender parity in Congress, and life after the birth of her daughter Charlotte.
