Two TSA screeners at the Denver airport have been fired after they were caught using the body scanner to falsely flag attractive passengers for extra screening — or, in this case, groping. It took three months for the TSA to take disciplinary action after it learned about this misconduct.
A colleague of one of the fired agents said he told her that "when a male he finds attractive comes to be screened by the scanning machine he will alert another TSA screener to indicate to the scanning computer that the party being screened is a female." This would cause the machine to flag an unexpected mass in the genital area, allowing the fired screener to do an invasive pat-down.
This report comes after the TSA replaced its most controversial scanners, which presented agents with a detailed scan of each person's body, with scanners that provide a generic human shape.
