2 dead, thousands in shelters after Typhoon Noul hits the Philippines

At least two people are dead and nearly 4,000 others had to evacuate their homes after Typhoon Noul slammed the northern Philippines on Sunday.

A 74-year-old man and a 46-year-old man were electrocuted while attempting to fix a damaged roof in Cagayan province, NBC News reports. In Cagayan and Isabella province, several areas lost power, and 3,800 people remain in emergency shelters. The PAGASA weather bureau said that on Monday morning, there were sustained winds of 100 mph near the Batanes Islands, and waves of 46 feet were recorded in the open ocean off the coast.

The Weather Channel says that by the time Typhoon Noul passes near or over Okinawa, Japan, early Tuesday, it should be the equivalent of a Category 1 or 2 hurricane, and may bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Tokyo on Wednesday.
