Scott Walker to announce presidential run on July 13
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will officially jump into the 2016 presidential race on July 13 with an announcement in his hometown of Waukesha, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. Politico first reported the news on Thursday morning, with confirmation from two aides that Walker will file his candidacy paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday morning.
Walker has long been expected to enter the 2016 race, but, up until now, he has kept his potential candidacy in the exploratory phase. If the two-term Wisconsin governor decides to enter the race, he will be the fifteenth Republican to do so. The only potential catch? Walker has promised he would not enter the presidential race until the Wisconsin legislature had completed its two-year budget bill. While Wisconsin lawmakers plan to meet next week to try to finish it up, it's unclear whether the bill will be wrapped up by Walker's slated announcement date.
