Kim Kardashian is in trouble with the FDA
The Food and Drug Administration is warning Kim Kardashian that her social media posts are in violation of federal rules regarding drug promotion.
The pregnant reality TV star has 42 million followers on Instagram and 25 million on Facebook, and earlier this month used her accounts to promote Diclegis, a prescription pill approved by the FDA in 2013 to treat nausea and vomiting in pregnant women. "I tried changing things about my lifestyle, like my diet, but nothing helped, so I talked to my doctor," she posted. "He prescribed me #Diclegis, and I felt a lot better and most importantly, it's been studied and there was no increased risk to the baby." She included a link to the company website.
FDA regulators say these posts are breaking rules by not mentioning side effects or that Diclegis is not approved for women who have prolonged vomiting spells, which can cause dehydration. On Tuesday, the FDA released a warning letter to the drug's marketer, Duchesnay Inc., calling on the company to remove any posts in violation of the rules and come up with a plan to prevent future incidents by Aug. 21. As of Tuesday afternoon, the posts were no longer visible on any of Kardashian's accounts, The Associated Press reports.
